HuiZhou Officials denied that HEG electronics use child labor and
has excessive working hours. We don’t believe their statement as it is contrary to our investigation findings.
However, from the picture they released, you can see that workers are standing while they work, as we had talk about in our report. Often time, they are required to stand for more than 11 hours in the small working area. Walking around is restricted. Imagine how it is like to stand in a small working table for 10 hours a day with your movement strictly under restriction. Not to mention that most of these workers are underaged, some of them are child laborers. http://www.china.org.cn/china/2012-08/10/content_26189051.htm

Standing desks are all the rage in the Western world, why do you think Chinese workers can’t do the same?

I believe western workers work 8 hours a day with a minimum wage of 7.25(in the case of NY).
These workers work at least 11 hours a day, some time up to 14 hours, while making far less than western workers.
Your blog post made it seem like standing while you work was a labour crime. You may want to revisit that.
You are delusional if you think Western workers work 8 hours a day. I know many people who are personally working 70-80 per week in the USA.
thank you for your suggestion. I will rewrite the sentence.
Our main point is child labor and excessive working hours. The workers are mostly students, a lot of them are under legal working age. Thats why we said we do not believe the statement released by the factory.
Standing 11 hours a day with restrictions of movement is a point we made. Not that it is a crime, but to show the harsh condition.
and i do know that many workers are working 70-80 hours a week, but the moneytary incentive is there, with 150% of over time pay. you can’t really compare the situation.
Even investmant bankers work 80 hours a week, but this does not mean that they are exploited, right?
I know you are tying to get to the truth. That’s admirable. Just do it based on facts. Also remember the USA was built on the backs of African slaves and indentured laborers.
Perhaps this is how the Chinese see us : http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/northamerica/after1500/economy/indentured.htm
